NATURALIST EXPLORERS SPRING 2010

Designed for youth ages 10-13 with a serious interest in the natural world, this program will blend outdoor skills training, purposeful exploring and guided off-trail forays to provide unique experiences available only through this program. You never know what we'll find. 4-session series
Feb. 13 Maple Sugaring: A Behind the Scenes Look Check the sap pails, search for the tree with the most sugar in its sap, help with the evaporator and try maple sap mint tea. In the course of our sap gathering, we check the ponds for Jefferson salamanders.
Mar. 20 Canoe in the Lake We'll don life jackets, touch on canoeing basics and safety then survey Canada goose nests on the island in Powell Crosley Lake via canoe. Dress in layers. We'll warm up with hot chocolate.
Apr. 10 Wayout Wildflowers Journeying to seldom seen areas of Rowe Woods, we will check out fascinating spring wildflowers and their relationship to the rest of the forest.
May 15 Avey's Run Stream Hike We'll explore one of the branches of Aveys Run in a quest for salamanders. Bring shoes that firmly attach to your feet and can get wet as well as a backpack for your dry shoes and socks.
